How we verify every pro
"Verified" on EmpowerQuotes is not a badge we hand out. Every business clears the same baseline checks, plus credentials specific to what they do, before they can bid on a single request.
Standard checks for every pro
These apply across every category. A business fails any of these, the listing does not go live.
Active business registration
Every pro must be a registered business in their state, in good standing. We check the public state registry before approving a listing.
Tax ID on file
An EIN (or SSN for sole proprietors) is required so we can issue accurate documentation and confirm the business is a real legal entity.
Verified contact information
Working phone number and business email, both confirmed at signup. Customers reach pros through the platform first, but contact details get unlocked once a job is awarded.
Service area declaration
Pros tell us exactly where they work. They only see quote requests inside that area, and we audit listings that try to claim regions they cannot reasonably serve.
Category-specific credentials
On top of the baseline, here is what we require by category before a pro can bid on requests in that space.
Construction & Home Services
State contractor license (where required for project size), proof of general liability insurance, workers compensation where applicable.
Auto Repair
State mechanic or repair facility license where required, garage liability insurance, optional ASE certifications surfaced on the listing.
Legal & Financial
Active bar admission with the state bar (attorneys) or applicable licensure (CPAs, financial advisors). Disciplinary status checked against the state directory.
Dental
Active state dental license. DEA registration where the practice prescribes controlled substances.
Moving & Storage
USDOT number for interstate carriers, state motor carrier permit for intra-state. Cargo and liability insurance certificates on file.
Cleaning
General liability insurance. Bonding strongly encouraged for residential cleaning and surfaced on the listing when present.
Chiropractic & Massage
Active state license for chiropractors, LMTs, and acupuncturists. Malpractice coverage on file.
Landscaping
State contractor license for projects above the unlicensed-work threshold. Pesticide applicator license for any chemical treatment work.
If something goes wrong
We are a small team, and verification is not perfect. If you run into a pro who turns out to misrepresent their credentials, work, or licensing:
- 1.Report it to us through the contact page. We investigate every report.
- 2.Listings come down while the issue is reviewed. If the report holds up, the business is removed permanently.
- 3.Where applicable, we will help you connect with the right state regulator (contractor board, bar association, dental board, etc.).
